Meta Platforms shares had been doing well, but the rally has recently given way to uncertainty.
Meta’s Muse personal AI assistant helped push the stock higher for most of September, although shares dropped in the last two trading sessions. The stock made a small gain before Tuesday’s open and is still up for the month as of Monday’s close.
Still, the stock seems to be at a turning point, especially with OpenAI’s developer conference coming up on Tuesday. A report from Testing Catalog says OpenAI might reveal a new always-on AI assistant at the event. OpenAI did not respond to an earlier request for comment on the report.
A product like this could compete directly with Meta’s Muse, and investors will probably act fast to judge how much of a threat it is. While people are still guessing what OpenAI’s CEO will announce in his keynote, the company has already said it is dropping its latest AI model because of safety concerns.
Meta’s Muse was bound to face more competition over time, and OpenAI is just one of several companies aiming for a piece of the personal AI assistant market. The race to create the best personal AI agents seems to be only beginning.
