PayPal announced Tuesday that its customers can now use Meta’s Muse AI assistant to shop and check out. The news pushed PayPal’s shares higher.
PayPal shares rose 1.2%, and Meta Platforms shares gained 1%.
This PayPal partnership followed Shopify’s announcement a day earlier. Shopify customers can now use Muse to find products from Shopify merchants and complete purchases with Shop Pay.
Shopify shares rose nearly 7% on Tuesday, building on strong gains from Monday. Meta shares had already jumped more than 11% in the previous session. Both Wall Street and consumers have reacted positively to Muse, a virtual assistant that can book appointments and travel, place orders, and send emails for users.
J.P. Morgan said Tuesday that Muse could become the most widely used consumer AI app since ChatGPT.
Muse works by accessing user data and the platforms and services people use often, such as online retailers, travel sites, and email providers. Shopify and PayPal have allowed Meta and Muse to connect to their platforms, but not all companies have agreed. On Monday, Amazon confirmed it had asked Meta to remove Amazon from the Muse experience.
